Planting a public orchard trail in Hanwell

Cultivate London kicked off the new year by planting an orchard trail in Hanwell. Less than 200 years ago food would have been readily available on trees, sadly today many of our ancient woodlands have been destroyed due to urban sprawl, so, the innovative programme Hanwell Big Local was set up with the aim of achieving lasting change by enabling people who live in the area to build on local talents and aspirations, so they can identify and act on their own needs to make their areas even better places to live, both now and years to come.

With the help of volunteers and local residents, who braved the February cold, we planted 120 apple and pear trees across 7 sites around Gurnell, Pitshanger & Hanwell. We will be planting meadow flowers under the trees in the coming months, so if youโ€™d like to come and help out please do get in touch with rosie@cultivatelondon/.org.Have you visited? Weโ€™d love to hear your thoughts.
