Volunteers make an important contribution to our work; we always welcome volunteers at all of our sites. If you would like to know more email volunteering@ayseesww.com.
We are fast becoming the specialist charity for designing, establishing and creating productive educational food growing gardens in West London. Working with a wide mix of community groups we can advise and / or manage on almost any underused or disused site such as in housing estates, on rooftops, on meanwhile land, community centres. Our own kitchen garden in Isleworth is a great example of how well a site can be converted and used by many groups. It is our HIVE of knowledge for the community gardening. We have helped establish and run sites in Isleworth, Battersea, Southall, Hanwell, Brentford, to name a few. We are passionate about โgreening the greyโ so contact us if you have a space that you need help with.

DIG, Green Lane Hanwell, Ealing, W7
Our newest garden. We were delighted to have secured this community site through fundraising and very generous grants from the Mayor of Londonโs โMAKE LONDONโ funding initiative, Ealings โFUTURE EALINGโ fund and William Hobbayne charity who focus on local needs in the Hanwell area. a plethora of pledges from individuals and local residents, along with a promotional push from the BBC London news!
Currently, we are working on improving it with volunteers from the community and corporate volunteer groups. When complete it will provide a large array of growing spaces, a mini orchard, a โFIXโ shed, polytunnel, our own composting area, a multipurpose building for meetings and winter events, a mini amphitheater, several tool sheds and a dedicated โquietโ space to relax and de-stress.

Salopian Kitchen Garden
The Salopian Kitchen Garden is a volunteer-built community space and learning resource created on previously undeveloped National Trust land in Isleworth.
In 2015 we worked with local volunteers to develop this community kitchen garden โ on a formerly derelict site that is now a tranquil and beautiful oasis of green in the heart of Hounslow. An accessible growing space equipped with raised beds, covered growing areas, an accessible toilet and paved pathways so that we can welcome everyone โ including those with mobility issues โ to get involved in the garden. We also have a Polytunnel which can be used as a classroom and we are upgrading our cabin and kitchen facilities to allow for activities all year around. It is a perfect place to bring community members together, and to provide education and training.
Since opening in 2015, The Salopian Kitchen Garden has become a โhubโ for a wide variety of community activities and we have partnered with a number of local community organisations to deliver various projects and events here for โ and with โ local people. We work with a wide spectrum of community beneficiaries, including school groups, elders, the less-abled and those with mental-health issues, providing gardening and training activities. The community also uses this green-space to socialise and enjoy an improved urban environment.

Southall Manor House
The historic Manor House was brought back to life as a new hub for hospitality, building on Southallโs cultural diversity and excellence in food. This included developing a large kitchen garden within the grounds with the aim of growing a selection of food, herbs and spices for a new on-site restaurant, while allowing space for community activities and involvement.
Our team, working alongside Seed Landscape Design and assisted by a group of 14 Inclusive Learning students from West London College, planted the large vegetable bed and the Herb & Spice Garden.
Following the initial planting session, working in partnership with Ealing Council and West London College Inclusive Learning students, we continued to regularly maintain these areas of the Kitchen Garden and work to engage local community members in caring for the plants.
โThis was a really fun way for the students to get involved in the community. It was great to see all the students busy planting and sowing seeds. It will be fantastic for the students to see the fruits of their labour once the plants have grown.โ

London Cooking Project
In the spring of 2018, in partnership with social enterprise London Cooking Project, began work on a new community kitchen garden on the Ethelburga Estate in Battersea. LCP is a community kitchen that works to provide opportunities to develop and nurture young talent in the culinary field and runs community-based food projects focused on healthy eating and cooking skills. Given the complementary nature of Cultivate Londonโs and LCPโs objectives, we were excited to be working together with them to support the community in Battersea.
Funding for this project (in part by a community of our supporters via crowdfunding platform Spacehive, along with generous grants from the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Wates Foundation, and Wandsworth Council) allowed us โ with the help of local residents โ to build a number of raised beds on the Ethelburga Estate. It also allowed us to deliver various community outreach activities over the year, including regular volunteer sessions, and food growing and healthy eating activities. The community continue to thrive and whilst we are still involved they now have the skills, tools and plants required to run this project themselves and our role has naturally evolved to that as being a source of information and help when required. Proving these community projects can have life beyond the initial funding initiative.
Recycling timber
We gather timber from our neighbours on the housing developments, sand them down and work them up to create all sorts of useful equipment for our urban kitchen gardens which can be commissioned to fit any space. These include:
- Planters of all sizes
- Raised beds
- Potting tables
- Fruit cages
- Compost Bins
