This ground breaking project at Marston Court, Hanwell, for the London Borough of Ealing provides emergency hostel accommodation for local people, assessed as being in immediate housing need. Award winning architectural practice QED are behind these temporary homes which are built from re-purposed shipping containers.
They offer a sustainable, robust, affordable and flexible solution particularly suited to this urban, difficult to access infill site. Cultivate London was instructed to help build, plant and maintain the outside spaces. Alongside this, weโve been holding regular resident engagement sessions to help generate interest and a feeling of ownership for the residents of their surrounding green spaces, and though a range of activities aimed at young children living there, weโve also started to build a regular team of little gardeners.
