Job Title: Horticultural Supervisor & Community Gardener (temporary)

An exciting opportunity to work with the senior staff to help deliver efficient operation of CLโ€™s garden maintenance and landscaping services on a commercial and community level. As well as to help further develop CLโ€™s youth and community training programmes. This role is for a motivated, energetic person focused on achieving set targets with the ability to think creatively and inspire others.

Salary: ยฃ22,000 โ€“ ยฃ24,500 (depending on experience)

Hours: 5 days per week (37.5 hours) Monday to Friday, 8.30am โ€“ 5.00pm, with occasional weekend work as business needs require

Contract: 3-month contract (potential to expand depending on performance and funding) โ€“ start ASAP

Location: Office: Acton, London. However, day to day work will be undertaken at sites across West & South London, as business requires. These sites may include, but are not limited to private, community-based or public spaces

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Contract Deliverables

The Horticultural Supervisor & Community Gardener is required to:

  • Carry out a wide range of horticultural and Cultivate London related tasks as directed by the Operations Manager and the Communities Manager
  • Work with other senior staff to supervise and train the personal and professional development of Cultivate Londonโ€™s Apprentices and Interns, and to assist the development of Cultivate Londonโ€™s youth training programme
  • Supervise gardening teams on site, drive company vehicles and ensure health, safety and welfare of trainees and Apprentice gardeners is maintained

The main roles of the job:

  1. Carry out maintenance tasks and upkeep of a wide range of green areas and growing spaces, including the use of powered, non-powered tools & equipment, the application of pesticides / herbicides in line with good operational practice
  2. Supervise and deliver on-the-job coaching for Apprentice gardeners and work experience trainees to develop their horticultural skills and knowledge
  3. Review and provide feedback on the performance of Apprentice gardeners and work experience trainees
  4. Attend team and supervision meetings as requested
  5. Ensure that all vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment are kept clean, safe, safe, secure and in a serviceable condition at all times
  6. Maintain accurate records
  7. Be responsible for the maintenance of personal health and safety and development of best practice, as well as that of our clients and fellow staff, as required by law
  8. Work as part of the CL team and carry out cover for other staff as and when required
  9. Undertake any other duties and training that may reasonably be required by Cultivate London
  10. As this post involved working with children, young people and vulnerable adults appointment will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosures and Barring Service check

Personal Specification

Essential

  1. Proven experience of horticultural work with a sound knowledge of horticultural procedures and processes
  2. The ability to carry out a full range of horticultural operations to a high standard across various sites
  3. Demonstrable knowledge of workplace health, safety and welfare practice and requirements
  4. Full clean UK driving licence
  5. Ability to work effectively as part of the CL team and occasionally work under remote supervision
  6. Ability to supervise and coach inexperienced team members or commitment to developing supervisory skills
  7. Willingness to work outside of normal working hours including weekends, as agreed in advance with CL
  8. The ability to produce and maintain accurate & legible records as requiredTrustworthy, dependable, motivated, a good time keeper and communicator
  9. PA1 & PA6 qualification

Desirable

  1. Experience of working with community projects, volunteer groups or vulnerable people
  2. Experience of driving vans / work vehicles
